Valentine’s Day Decor Recap – It’s Not too Late to Decorate!
February 10, 2019
Still haven’t decorated for Valentine’s Day, but you want to? Well there’s still plenty of time. I thought I would give you a recap of my Valentine’s Day DIY decorations to help get you inspired! As I said in a recent Instagram story, the lovely, little town where I do my shopping didn’t have too much to offer in the way of Valentine’s decorations. But that’s okay…it was more fun and much cheaper to make them myself.
The first decoration I made was my “LOVE” letters (no pun intended). I bought the letters for next to nothing at Crazy Sam’s. I painted them with red poster paint and added metallic pink polka dots. The number of ways to decorate these letters is only limited by your imagination! I’ve used them in several different Valentine’s vignettes…they’re so versatile!
In my post https://touchofthesouthdownunder.com/how-to-make-a-valentines-day-tree I showed you how to make a Valentine’s tree using air dry clay. I also bought the clay and paint from Crazy Sam’s. This was a little more time consuming only due to the drying time. There are endless ways that you can decorate the little hearts. Check out my post for the directions!
If you want to do something festive, but really simple, the garland on the mirror in the above photo is it. I think this took me about fifteen minutes to make. I made a heart template from Word, traced the hearts onto construction paper and then cut them out. Next I punched two holes in the top of each heart and ran some pretty pink gingham ribbon through the holes. And voila! A simple decoration that still gets you into the spirit of the day. It’s also a fun craft to do with your children!
This past Friday I was privileged to take part in a Valentine’s Day table hop. It was so much fun and I met some wonderful friends. I hope you were able to check it out! Anyway I was able to use my LOVE letters, my I Love You More sign, the hearts from my Valentine’s tree and a few other bits and pieces that hardly cost me a thing, to make my table look beautiful (at least I think so).
The last DIY decoration I made (the idea came to me in a flash while I was driving home from town!) was streamers for my pendant light. These were a last minute addition to my tablescape and as with the garland on my mirror, took only a matter of minutes to make. I used my heart cookie cutter and traced several hearts onto construction paper, then cut them out. Next I punched one small hole in the top of each heart. Lastly I threaded white raffia through the holes and hung them from the light! Very inexpensive and simple. This is another one that the kids would enjoy.
So, as you can see, there are plenty of great decorations you can make in little to no time at all and for very little cost. You can do as much or as little as you like. Don’t feel like you have to decorate your entire house. Just pick a room or area to decorate. Get the kiddos involved and create some new memories!
