How to add interest to your decor…thank you for joining me for part three of this series! Hopefully you caught Part One and Part Two. In this post I want to talk about adding interest to your decor by incorporating trays and baskets and using unexpected items as decor pieces.
Baskets are versatile and so much fun to style. Metal baskets are my favorite. They have that real farmhouse/industrial vibe. I’ve had this basket for a couple of years now and it’s one of my favorite items to style for each new season or holiday.
Baskets are great to hang on blanket ladders! You can go with a theme or just pop in a few of your favorite pieces that you’d like to show off!
You can add interest to your decor by storing throws, quilts or pillows in your baskets. Plus it keeps these items organized, handy and ready for use.
Trays are another fun element to use to make your decor more interesting. Whether it be flat or tiered, the ways to style them are endless! When decorating my tiered tray I tend to go with a theme, like this spring/summer tray.
Not only can baskets add interest to your decor, they can be practical as well. Use one on your coffee or side table in the family room to keep track of the remote, books and your glasses.
Another way to add interest to your decor is by incorporating unexpected elements. Find something that has another purpose and make it into a decor piece. Like this lamp base that I found for $10 a couple of years ago. I didn’t want to go to the trouble and expense of wiring it up and making it work as it was intended , so I decided to use it as a candle holder in my fall/winter decor.
If you saw my earlier post Giving an Old Piece New Life and New Purpose then you know my son brought me home this cool, old ladder from our other farm. After a little bit of elbow grease and paint, it’s now one of my go to decor pieces!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this three part series on how to make you decor interesting. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and what you do to make your home decor interesting!
