I just love styling furniture of all shapes and sizes, but one of my favorites is a small table. This could be a bedside table, an end table or basically anything with a flat top that you can add decor pieces to. Styling a small table can offer a bit of a challenge due to the size, so you have to be clever and creative in order to get just the right balance. You don’t want to overpower it with pieces that are too big or too heavy, but you also don’t want to make it look puny (for lack of a better word!) by using items that are too small. So here are some examples that will hopefully give you some inspiration!
This is the bedside table in our guest bedroom.
I had so much fun “shopping my house” to come up with different arrangements to share with you. I chose just a few pieces to use in various ways. Trays are always good place to start. You can do so much with them depending on their size. You can add plants, faux or real, candles, books, the possibilities are endless!
Books are another great staple to use when styling. By stacking them you give your space height and dimension and adding a plant, candle or some other decor piece to the top of them creates warmth and interest.
If this is a little too plain for your liking, here I’ve added a sweet little bird statue.
This table lends itself to being formal or informal. So I thought I would use some fancier decor pieces to spruce it up a bit.
I love styling with candles. This one is from Pottery Barn Australia. In fact it’s one of the first items I bought when they opened in Australia. This option along with the following two are a bit more masculine. The faux plant adds a bit of color and softness.
I love using vintage items whenever I can. This old wooden bowl was here when I arrived 22 years ago. I’m not sure what the story behind it is, but I love it. With the books being black the bowl lightens the vignette and the faux plant once again adds softness.
I always decorate with photos. I love the memories they hold and the stories they tell. They remind us of special times in our lives and help to make our house a home. So as another option I’ve added a beautiful photo of my hubby and our oldest child when she was a toddler.
There are so many different ways to style a table using just a few different items. So gather a few of your favorites pieces, pick a table to style and have fun!
